Coogee

Suburb: Coogee Year/Season: 2020–2021 Job type: Ongoing horticultural maintenance — approximately 12 months

This Coogee residential property came to us through a common scenario on the coast: a well designed garden that wasn't performing as well as it should. The client had raised garden beds  installed by a builder as part of a broader renovation, but some of the planting wasn't establishing — and they weren't sure why.

The site was typical of Coogee's coastal corridor: sandy, free-draining soil with salt exposure and  strong afternoon sun on the northern and western aspects. The raised beds had been filled with a mix  that wasn't well matched to the plants selected, and the irrigation system had developed faults that  were going unnoticed — meaning some areas were getting too much water and others not enough.

Over the course of the maintenance contract we worked through the full scope: regular lawn mowing  and edging of the front naturestrip and rear pool lawn, hedge trimming and pruning to keep the  established Frangipanis and boundary planting in shape, and systematic troubleshooting of the  irrigation system to identify and resolve the faults. We were also brought in to assess the raised  garden beds — identifying the likely causes of poor plant establishment and providing a clear diagnosis. That kind of horticultural assessment is often the missing piece when a new garden isn't  performing: the plants and the installation can both be fine individually, but if the soil mix, drainage,  or irrigation setup isn't right for the specific conditions, the garden will struggle regardless.

The results speak through consistency — a crisp, well-maintained garden held in good condition  throughout the year, with the underlying issues identified and referred to the right people to resolve.
